Fairy Bread

This week we have been comparing how people in other countries celebrate.  After reading about birthday celebrations in Australia, we decided to make some Fairy Bread.  Fairy Bread is one of the finger foods served at Australian birthday parties.

DESKERCISE

We love to do DESKERCISE with Slim Goodbody. We learn about a topic while while we get some exercise and have some fun.  We learned about the First Thanksgiving, and this week we learned about proper hand washing.

Military Box

Thanks to all the parents who so generously sent in items for our military box.  We collected a lot of items to send along with our letters.

A Cookie Dig!!!

We had a lot of fun learning about fossils this week.  As a culminating activity, we learned
how difficult the job of a palentologist is by doing a dig of our own.  The students were
given a chocolate chip cookie and had to map where the chips were prior to digging.
Then, they where given two toothpicks to extract their chips (fossils) from the cookie
without breaking them. After this activity, they all had a better understanding of how
careful and patient a paleontologist must be to extract real fossils. Also, they have
a better understanding of how hard their work must be chipping
 away at rock.
